Olympic Hopeful Akwasi Frimpong's Bio

Akwasi Frimpong also known as GoldenSprint is an Olympic-level sprinter, motivational speaker, and has worked with international brands, including: Nike, Kalenji, Acai Action, Eurotech Group, and many more.  He was also the subject of the documentary, “The Rabbit Theory,” a film documenting his rise as a sprinter, and his transformation from a timid under-aged illegal immigrant to a self-assured, successful Dutchman.

Frimpong was born in Ghana and grew up in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, he attended the Johan Cruyff College school where he got his associates in PR, marketing and communications. Currently, Frimpong is studying Business Management with an emphasis in Marketing at the Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah.

Frimpong earned the nickname “GoldenSprint” after he received the Michael Johnson golden spikes (sprint shoes) from his former Olympian Dutch coach, Sammy Monsels in 2002, and won the Dutch junior 200m gold medal in 2003. According to Frimpong, it's not just about winning a gold medal, but being the best you can be and aiming for the highest in life.

Frimpong started at UVU in 2008, and ran the 100 meter, 200 meter and 4X100 meter relay for the university. In May 2010, Frimpong helped the relay team break the school record during the 2010 Great West Conference Championships. In 2011, he helped UVU 4x400m relay team win a gold medal and broke the meet record during the Great West indoor Championships. The championships were hosted in the hall of fame Armory indoor track in New York City.

In 2012, Frimpong made the Dutch pre-Olympic 4x100m relay team, and was on track for the London Olympics. A recurrent injury flared up, though, and snuffed out his dream. Frimpong’s attitude and determination to overcome his trials impressed the Olympic coaches and athletes, some of the world’s best. Frimpong currently helps coach at Modus Fit– ready to work with driven athletes and people serious about their fitness.
